Dr Serieta Mullings- Lawrence
Dr. Sireita Mullings-Lawrence is a visual sociologist and artist whose work explores the intersections of art, education, and social justice. She holds a BA in Art, Design and Education from the University of the West Indies (Mona) and Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Jamaica, with a focus on photography and graphic design. She later completed an MSc in Multimedia at the University of Westminster and earned her PhD from Goldsmiths, University of London.
Dr. Mullings-Lawrence’s practice and research are grounded in participatory and visual methodologies, drawing upon postcolonial theory to investigate issues of social exclusion, inclusion, migration, and informal education. Her doctoral research was an ethnographic study examining how postcolonial legacies of marginalization are visually articulated by multi-ethnic youth in Lambeth, London. As a community arts practitioner, she has worked both locally and internationally, using the arts to illuminate the subjective experiences of young people and empower them through digital creativity and social enterprise.
