Mrs. Nthabiseng Kotsokoane

Mrs. Nthabiseng Kotsokoane is a dedicated and long-standing member of LIASA (Library and Information Association of South Africa), widely recognized for her passionate and influential work advancing Library and Information Services (LIS) across Africa and beyond. A prominent figure in the international LIS community, Mrs. Kotsokoane currently serves on the IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) Governing Board, and is a former board member of AFLIA (African Library and Information Associations and Institutions).

Her distinguished service includes two terms as a member of the IFLA IT Section, former Chair of the IFLA Africa Section, Convenor of the Women, Information, and Libraries Special Interest Group (WILSIG), and acting IFLA President-Elect. Notably, she was the inaugural Chair of the IFLA Regional Council, where she played a key leadership role in guiding and supporting the work of IFLA’s regional divisions.

Currently, Mrs. Kotsokoane is the Assistant Director of Library and Information Services at the University of the Free State. Prior to this role, she spent a decade as Director of Library Services at Monash University South Africa, where she led the implementation of numerous transformative initiatives, including an institutional information literacy framework, the cloud-based ALMA library management system, the university’s institutional repository, and the development of data management policies and procedures.

Her passion lies in mentoring emerging library professionals, particularly in equipping them with the IT skills and attributes necessary to thrive in the evolving world of work. Her research interests focus on women and information technology, as well as IT applications in African libraries. She has also contributed significantly to various AFLIA-led initiatives, including projects such as Wikimedia and LibSense.
