
Prof Donrich Thaldar
Prof Donrich Thaldar is a Full Professor of Law at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. A prolific legal scholar, he has authored over 100 academic articles published in both national and international journals. His research spans cutting-edge intersections of law, health innovation, and emerging technologies.
Prof Thaldar has served as Principal Investigator on nine research grants, and currently leads a project funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health that explores the legal dimensions of data science in African health innovation. In addition to his academic work, he maintains a private legal practice and has acted as legal counsel in 22 reported cases, including five appearances before South Africa’s Constitutional Court.
A thought leader in legal technology, he chairs the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s AI Task Team, guiding institutional policy and ethical considerations in the deployment of artificial intelligence.
