
Mr Charlie Maphuntshane Molepo
Charlie Maphuntshane Molepo is a seasoned Professional Librarian, Teacher, and Assessor with a distinguished career in academic librarianship and governance. Since 2015, he has served as Deputy Director at the University of the Free State (UFS) Library, where he leads the Research & Scholarly Communications division. He also contributes to institutional governance as a representative of non-academic staff on the UFS Council, and is an active member of its Finance and Human Resources Committees.
Mr. Molepo brings a wealth of experience from prior roles at several institutions, including Vista University, Natal University, University of Johannesburg, University of KwaZulu-Natal Libraries, Universal Knowledge Software (UKS), and Dawson Books UK (Bertram Books), where he served as International Account Director for Africa.
His leadership extends to national professional and governance bodies. He has served on the Vista University Council, the ETDP SETA Board (2000–2004, 2010–2012), and as Member and Chair of the SAQA Standards Generating Body for Library & Information Services (SGBLIS) (2002–2010). A committed advocate for staff rights and development, he was also President of the Union of Democratic University Staff Associations (UDUSA).
Currently, he holds the prestigious position of President of the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA) for the 2024–2027 term, continuing his dedication to the advancement of the library and information services profession in South Africa.
